Good Girl Gone Bad

Chris Brown and Rihanna were once the envied Hollywood couple. They had the best relationship and seemed perfect for each other. That is, until the dreaded night that Brown allegedly beat Rihanna. This picture flooded the internet and news and everyone wondered how this could happen to the once “perfect” couple. The media and tabloids were all over this, and everyone wondered what would happen to Chris. Although he said he didn’t “mean to” he still did it and was charged with ‘alleged assault on a female.’ "Words cannot begin to express how sorry and saddened I am over what transpired. I am seeking the counseling of my pastor, my mother and other loved ones and I am committed, with God's help, to emerging a better person. Much of what has been speculated or reported on blogs and/or reported in the media is wrong. While I would like to be able to talk about this more, until the legal issues are resolved, this is all I can say except that I have not written any messages or made any posts to Facebook, on blogs or any place else. Those posts or writing under my name are frauds." , Spoke Chris brown just a week after the assault. (http://www.tmz.com/2009/02/15/chris-brown-finally-releases-statement/)

It was reported that a simple text message started this whole fight. After Chris received a text message from a woman who wrote about getting together, an argument erupted between him and Rihanna. She stated that during the argument, Chris started to hit her. She then faked a call to someone saying she was getting dropped off and to make sure the cops are there. He replied with some very nasty words.

Being a young woman myself, if a man ever did this to me, it would obviously be over. Forever. No second chances. Men are never allowed to hit women in any circumstances. But now, the tabloids are saying Chris and Rihanna are back together! I find this appalling and I don’t understand why she would do this to herself. Her father even approves of it! Now I think that’s bad parenting. (http://www.accidentalsexiness.com/2009/02/28/rihanna-back-with-chris-brown-daddy-approves/)

"Dixie Sluts" Speak Up

Everyone should have the ability to voice their opinion on world issues right? Most people feel that this is true, but when it came to the Dixie Chicks and Kanye West voicing their opinions on ex- president George bush, they were criticized.

The Dixie Chicks were banned off the air for disagreeing with President Bush’s plans for more and continued war in Iraq. I am “ashamed the president of the United States is from Texas” stated lead singer of the Dixie Chicks Natalie Maines. As soon as radio station managers and anyone heard this, the Dixie Chicks were banned from playing on multiple country radio stations. After hearing what the lead singer of this trio of country girl group had said, they participated in what they called a “chicken toss” where the radio stations threw out the Dixie Chicks tapes, CD’s, and concert tickets.

As if that isn’t bad enough, there was much more controversy dealing with Kanye West and George Bush. When Hurricane Katrina sadly devastated most of New Orleans, many people were left without homes, food, and were without some family members, as many passed away. Mike Myers and Kanye West were speaking on behalf of the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund and in Kanye’s speech he stated “George Bush hates black people.” This created a lot of drama. This was not in the script that Kanye was supposed to read, and this is what an NBC Universal reporter said: “Kanye West departed from the scripted comments that were prepared for him, and his opinions in no way represent the views of the networks. It would be most unfortunate if the efforts of the artists who participated tonight and the generosity of millions of Americans who are helping those in need are overshadowed by one person's opinion.” “George Bush doesn’t care about black people” wasn’t the only non-scripted statement that Kanye West said; most of what he says in this video wasn’t on the teleprompter. Realizing that after the first couple of sentences that Kanye said weren’t what he was supposed to say, someone working for the television station should have stopped and cut to another clip or something.

Although saying “George Bush doesn’t care about black people” may no have been the most appropriate way to state his feelings about the ex- president, I still feel that anyone should be able to express their feelings about anything, seeing as it is a free country and we have the right of speech. Celebrities just have to be slightly more careful the way that they word their feelings and emotions. http://www.cnn.com/2003/SHOWBIZ/Music/03/14/dixie.chicks.reut/
